I am firmly convinced that the Bible is God's greatest gift to the human race. It is what makes us civil. It is what makes us greater than all of the animals. No literature has ever been so controversial, because no literature has brought so much good. "The moral principles and precepts contained in the Scripture ought to form the basis of all our civil constitutions and laws. All the miseries and evil men suffer from vice, crime, ambition, injustice, oppression, slavery, and war, proceed from their despising or neglecting the precepts contained in the Bible."
