An Emma Lazarus Quote
On the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor appears the following sonnet. It was written by Emma Lazarus. It was placed there in 1903. I have one question: Is there another nation in the history of the world, that has welcomed immigrants the way the United States has?
"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door."
