Liberty Comes From The People

In 1912, Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States made a speech.  Part of it included the following, thought provoking  excerpt:

"Liberty has never come from the government.  Liberty has always come from the subjects of government. The history of liberty is the history of resistance.  The history of liberty is a history of the limitation of governmental power, not the increase of it."

Yes, liberty is an ideal.  The practice of it must be a reality, not just an ideal.  And yes, governments must not restrict it.  RD

Woodrow Wilson A Racist? So What?

Recently I have heard accusations against the 28th President of this great nation.  It is probably true. He has been accused of being a racist.  I say he was a product of his times.  He was born in  the state of Virginia in 1856.  What do you expect?  There is no need to diminish his accomplishments based on a time period in which he never lived.  Were not the first 15 Presidents of our great nation all slave owners?  What do we do about that?  What can we do?  Nothing.  That is just the way it was. Was it not legal?  Those were different days.  I ask all historians to keep on studying history.  Do your research.  However, if you decide to judge the character of someone, please remember that in many ways, it is inappropriate to judge someone who lived most of his life in the 19th Century, by 21st Century standards.

No Moral Parameters: No Freedom

Democracy and freedom cannot exist unless moral parameters exist.  This is not a new idea.  Also, freedom cannot be successfully practiced unless the leaders of a nation are practicing both morality and wisdom.  Education feeds wisdom, but it does not produce it.  Wisdom is not possible unless it is initiated by morality. Therefore, a nation's leaders will model what the populace must do to pursue and practice freedom.  If the leaders are unable to do this, their actions will  result in the pursuit of tyranny.

Get Into The Word

The whole issue of faith and religion is not about organizations.  It is not about organizations.  It is about the Word of God.  I am not against being a member of a  church.  But that church is responsible for properly teaching me the Word of God.  And I am responsible for making every effort to grow spiritually, increase my knowledge of the Word of God, and obey the Word of God.  That can be a tall order.  Any Christian Church is responsible for teaching the truth and abiding by the doctrines written in the Word of God.  It is responsible to assist the membership in their quest for a greater knowledge of God.  The truth must be taught.  False doctrine and false prophecy must never be tolerated.  Never.
