Government Exists To........

"Government exists to protect us from each other.  Where government has
gone beyond its limits is in deciding to protect us from ourselves."

Who Was Our Constitution Made For?

The title of this entry asks a question.  The question is answered in the following quote made by John Adams,
one of the founding fathers of this great nation.  As I see it, if the Constitution was "made only for a religious and
moral people; " How can we go wrong?  The US cannot and will not achieve perfection.  But by the standards of this world, it has achieved greatness.  It will continue to be great. Why?  Because it will continue to be blessed. RD

"We have no government armed in power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by
morality and religion.
OUR CONSTITUTION WAS MADE ONLY FOR A RELIGIOUS AND MORAL PEOPLE.*
It is wholly inadequate for the government of any other."

John Adams      (2nd US President)

Some Quotes About Guns

"A strong body makes the mind strong.  As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives
moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise and independence to the mind.  Games played
with the ball, and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind.  Let
your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks."
Thomas Jefferson

"The enemies of freedom do not argue; they shout and they shoot."     William Ralph Inge

"If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun."
 Dalai Lama

A Ronald Reagan Quote

"We must reject the idea that every time a law is broken,
society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker.  It is time to
restore the American precept that each individual is
accountable for his actions."       Ronald Reagan

Sometimes when tragic events take place that are the result
of the actions of criminals, or careless, thoughtless, angry or
emotionally/mentally disturbed persons; some, among us,
choose to blame society.  Perhaps they point out something
that we may consider "food for thought."  However, in the final
analysis,  it is the one who pulled the trigger, planted the bomb
or committed some other atrocity who is responsible.  We are
aware that someone may have helped, supplied or financed
the wrongdoing.  Nevertheless, they do not comprise all of
society.  No, society is not responsible.  RD

Who May Own A Gun?

I am not a gun owner.  I am not a gun lover. I am not a member of the NRA.  However, I believe in freedom.  Gun ownership is a right.  It is a right that needs to  continue to be a right  in this great nation.  There are laws that govern the ownership of firearms.  They relate to age, sanity and previous law offenses.  Yes, there are some people who should not own guns.  But law-abiding citizens should not be deprived of gun ownership. Here are a few quotes with which I am in agreement.  The last sentence of Jeffrey Snyder's quote sums it up quite adequately.  RD

"It is unreasonable ... to oblige a man not to attempt the defense of his own life." Charles de Montesquieu

"The great object is that every man be armed. Everyone who is able may have a gun." Patrick Henry

"But to ban guns because criminals use them is to tell the innocent and law-abiding that their rights and liberties depend not on their own conduct, but on the conduct of the guilty and the lawless, and that the law will permit them to have only such rights and liberties as the lawless will allow. ... For society does not control crime, ever, by forcing the law-abiding to accommodate themselves to the expected behavior of criminals. Society controls crime by forcing the criminals to accommodate themselves to the expected behavior of the law-abiding."
Jeffrey R. Snyder

Maryland Bans Gay Conversion Therapy

Recently, the state of Maryland banned gay conversion therapy that is used  by professionals.  It has been widely used by Christian practitioners. It is of particular concern to Christian parents.   Here is my point of view about it.

We need to be aware that  parents have choices in this country.  We may not agree with those choices, but parents need to be allowed to raise their children in the manner that they believe is best for them. I am against assigning a particular term in the English language, to the garbage dump, that represents something that is beneficial to society, just because it is not politically expedient to a few people.  How about conversion therapy that converts an alcoholic into a non-alcoholic?  How about conversion therapy that converts a drug addict into a former drug user?  How about conversion therapy that converts a person's thinking from "my way or the highway" to the thinking that declares: "leave people alone and let them live their lives the way they choose to do so."  No, that would be unacceptable because that type of thinking represents freedom.  Believe it or not, there are people in this country who want to practice their freedom, but they do not want others to practice theirs because they do not agree with the lifestyle.
"WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL."  How long before that statement becomes a creed of "days gone by."?

The War Between Freedom And..........

The War is on.  It is constant.  It is the war between FREEDOM AND COURTESY, FREEDOM AND RESPECT, FREEDOM AND LEGALITY, FREEDOM AND WISDOM, FREEDOM AND MORALITY,  and FREEDOM AND KNOWLEDGE.  Freedom is precious, like fine gold. The practice of freedom is not always nice.  Freedom can be expensive.  It costs money.  It has cost some, their front teeth.  It has cost blood, sweat and tears.  What must freedom do?  It must align itself with the 6 virtues mentioned, instead of being at war with them.  I know, it is a tall order.  And it is not always entertaining.  Sometimes it is, however. FREEDOM AND IGNORANCE have aligned themselves well.  Sometimes it is tragic. Nevertheless, at other times, it is hilarious.  Circus clowns have developed it into an art form with much success.  Let freedom ring!
