Liberty Comes From The People

In 1912, Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of the United States made a speech.  Part of it included the following, thought provoking  excerpt:

"Liberty has never come from the government.  Liberty has always come from the subjects of government.The history of liberty is the history of resistance.  The history of liberty is a history of the limitation of governmental power, not the increase of it."

Yes, liberty is an ideal.  The practice of it must be a reality, not just an ideal.  And yes, governments must not restrict it.  RD

Woodrow Wilson A Racist? So What?

Recently I have heard accusations against the 28th President of this great nation.  It is probably true. He has been accused of being a racist.  I say he was a product of his times.  He was born in  the state of Virginia in 1856.  What do you expect?  There is no need to diminish his accomplishments based on a time period in which he never lived.  Were not the first 15 Presidents of our great nation all slave owners?  What do we do about that?  What can we do?  Nothing.  That is just the way it was. Was it not legal?  Those were different days.  I ask all historians to keep on studying history.  Do your research.  However, if you decide to judge the character of someone, please remember that in many ways, it is inappropriate to judge someone who lived most of his life in the 19th Century, by 21st Century standards.

No Moral Parameters: No Freedom

Democracy and freedom cannot exist unless moral parameters exist.  This is not a new idea.  Also, freedom cannot be successfully practiced unless the leaders of a nation are practicing both morality and wisdom.  Education feeds wisdom, but it does not produce it.  Wisdom is not possible unless it is initiated by morality. Therefore, a nation's leaders will model what the populace must do to pursue and practice freedom.  If the leaders are unable to do this, their actions will  result in the pursuit of tyranny.

Get Into The Word

The whole issue of faith and religion is not about organizations.  It is not about organizations.  It is about the Word of God.  I am not against being a member of a  church.  But that church is responsible for properly teaching me the Word of God.  And I am responsible for making every effort to grow spiritually, increase my knowledge of the Word of God, and obey the Word of God.  That can be a tall order.  Any Christian Church is responsible for teaching the truth and abiding by the doctrines written in the Word of God.  It is responsible to assist the membership in their quest for a greater knowledge of God.  The truth must be taught.  False doctrine and false prophecy must never be tolerated.  Never.

Beyond The Limits Of Reason

When you mess with someone's freedom you go beyond the limits of reason.  Sometimes legislation is passed that attempts to curtail disorder by unreasonable legislation.  This can, at times, produce and identify certain actions as crimes that are not really crimes.  Obviously, members of society want a peaceful society.  But can this be accomplished without stealing a certain amount of freedom? Probably not.

Yes, Changes Occur


Yes, changes occur. Yes, slavery was wrong. Yes, women should be allowed to vote. Yes, the military draft was necessary. Yes, people should be able to sit on available seats on a bus without regard to skin color. Yes, yes, yes to many, many things. Same-sex marriage?  Unacceptable.   If somebody else does it, how does it bother you? Some may ask. If someone else is murdered, how does it effect me? If someone else is robbed, how does it effect me? If the child of someone else is kidnapped, how does it effect me? I have the responsibility of protecting my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and so on from destructive value systems. Same-sex marriage is unrighteous, and not ordained by God. Are we not called to do the will of God?  I am also commanded to love my fellow human being. I will continue to do that and teach that. Homosexuality is sin. Love the sinner, hate the sin. Jesus is God.  There is much more.  Please read the Gospel of Matthew Chapter 5, verses 1-48.

I am not the author of the following quote.  But I have respected its content ever since I heard it.  To me, it is nothing but truth and common sense.  It recognizes that moral parameters exist.  I used to quote it, at times, when I was a school teacher.  I do not know the name of the author, but here it is:   "Just because you have a right to do something does not mean that doing it is right."

Friday The 13th? No Biggie!

Look, let us make something perfectly clear.  Each day is what you make it.  Yes, we know that every day things happen that are beyond our control.  Regardless of the year, Friday the 13th will come around.  So, what?  Life is what we make it.  Do you really think that  the date will not allow us to determine our own destiny?  Nonsense.  Please do not be superstitious.  Again, life is what we make it.  Have a beautiful day.  Incidentally, I got fired from a job on Friday, June 13th, 1969.  I did not get fired from the job because it was Friday the 13th.  I got fired because I insulted my boss.  It turned out to be the start of a beautiful journey.  For the fourth time......life/each day is what we make it. Do you Want To Be A Leader?

   It   does not happen because someone appointed you.  It does not happen because someone elected you.  Do you want to be a leader?  Go for it.  Earn  it.  I have five recommendations.  1) Love people. 2)  Be humble.   3)  Have a servant's heart.  4)  Pursue excellence without being arrogant about it.
5) Develop positive relationships (without being a phony, please refer to # 1)  Basically, those 5 are all that you need.  Of course you need to be knowledgeable about your goals and objectives.  Go for it!  Be a leader!

God Sent Some Rain Today

He will never fail us.  Today is November 3, 2015.  In San Diego today, we got much rain.  It was severely needed.  It is an answer to prayer.  "Mother Nature" did not send the rain.  No such person exists.  Jesus sent the rain.  He sends it at His time.  Did He not say: "If you ask for anything in my name, I will do it?" (Jn. 14:14) He stands by His promises.  He always has.  He always will.  Praise the name of Jesus!

Another Letter To A News Outlet

There is a high school in the state of Washington whose Principal is threatening to fire the football coach for praying after the football game on the 50 yard line with his team.  Here is my response to that  Principal:   Just leave people alone. Let them exercise their freedoms. Pray if you want to pray. Don’t pray if you don’t want to pray. Just leave people alone. Let freedom ring. So many Principals of schools and Superintendents of school districts are truly scared rabbits. Prayer and football go together like two peas in a pod. There is no NFL football team that does not have a Chaplain on staff. Why? Because everyone in his/her right mind knows that football is a dangerous sport. It is also a sport that requires a great deal of inspiration. Faith, protection, personal guidance, motivation, gratitude, and praise and honor for the Supreme Being are all realities of life. Prayer is serious business, and the devil does not like it. If players were rallying around a water bucket and talking to it after the game, under the name of “school tradition,” I suspect there would be no problem. Herein lies the problem: Nonsense is encouraged, while wisdom is discouraged. This, in an academic institution. The ACLU is waiting close by to “rescue” those who practice wise decisions….and attempt to take away freedoms while they are at it. And make some big bucks to boot!

An Intolerant Professor


 A professor of religious studies at the University of Pennsylvania, named Anthea Butler recently insulted Dr. Ben Carson, and called him a "coon" because she disagreed with a statement he made about the Confederate flag.  She has also stated that "Christianity is responsible for slavery."  "Coon" is an unkind word to call a Black person.  If Butler disagrees with Carson, then explain why.  Is she not an educated person?  Also, Christianity is not responsible for slavery.  It is responsible for ending it.  Butler needs to be reprimanded and/or fired.  It appears that Butler believes in freedom of speech only if she agrees with what is said.  If you do not agree, then you insult.  Does that seem proper?  Does that seem scholarly or courteous?  Incidentally, although he did not belong to a specific denomination, Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, was a Christian.  He had no formal schooling as a child.  He learned how to read at home using a Bible as a textbook.  His important speeches contain quotes or references to the Bible.  Another great American is no doubt considered the greatest civil rights leader in the history of the United States.  He was a minister of the Gospel and Pastor of a Baptist Church.  He also believed in freedom and expressed it.   For this he was also called a "coon."  Not only that, he was assassinated.  He was Dr. Martin Luther King.   Intolerance sometimes breeds destruction, and the practice of freedom is sometimes the object of that destruction.

Hamas Called A Murderer "Heroic"

Several days ago, a Palestinian man stabbed two Israelis to death in old Jerusalem.  This attack also seriously wounded a woman and a toddler.  Hamas, the Islamic militant  group that rules Gaza, praised the attack.  It called the attack "heroic."  I just have one question:  What makes stabbing a man and a woman to death, and seriously wounding a toddler and a woman, a "heroic" act?

You might answer by saying, "considering, I did not have a will, I was not really a person."  Really?  If you were not a person then, how could you be a person now?  You were given a chance at life.  Why would you want to deny someone else a chance to have the same?  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Same Gender Marriage ?

I wrote the following letter several days ago as a result of a photo/sign that I saw on top of a  rainbow painted house.  Two gay men were holding up a sign that said " Marriage equality and justice for all."  I am aware of what the sign means.  I just do not agree with it.  Same gender marriage is not good for the country.  Also, someone had sent in a picture of a cow with a caption that said "I will give you six cows for your daughter so that I may marry her."  The purpose of that was to equate old fashioned thinking with marriage being between a man and a woman.  Is homosexuality/lesbianism something new?  No.  Is it wrong?  Yes.  Who said so?  God said so.

Denver Chick Filet Haters

Apparently someone in Denver does not want Chick-Fil-A to set up shop at the Denver airport. Why? Because the owners are Christians who do not believe in same-sex marriage. Here is my response to the Chic-Filet haters.

What is happening to freedom in this great country? Are people not entitled to practice their faith, have opinions and points of view? Chick-fil-A is harming nobody. They are being discriminated against just because the ownership holds Biblical beliefs. Part of the problem is jealousy. Those who do not agree with CFA’s faith are insanely jealous of their financial success. Keep it up Chick-fil-A, keep it up! You are a beacon of light in our society! Not only that, every school of business within the illustrious universities of our beautiful nation should require their students to hear presentations given by representatives of CFA, before they earn their undergraduate degrees. Why? Because “nothing succeeds like success!”

Seek, Find And Live The Truth

We must continue to fight the good fight. Yes, sin exists in our world. Yes, unbelief exists in our world. Yes, God is (He does not just "exist") And if you believe that, you believe at least a portion of what the Bible teaches. Why not believe more than a portion? Things will get better when ALL Christian denominations preach what the Bible teaches. For starters: Any Church, that calls itself Christian, needs to stop baptizing infants, because it constitutes a forced baptism. ALL Christian Churches need to realize that Jesus is God, and "that in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily." (Col. 2:9) If Jesus is God, then there is no need to pray to anyone else. All Christian Churches need to allow their priests and ministers to marry, if they desire to do so. Read I Timothy 4:1-4. (KJV) Does it not refer to “doctrines of devils”? What about the doctrine of not eating meat on Fridays? (which was taught for many years) “Commanding to abstain from meats.” Doctrines of devils? You be the judge. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” (Hosea 4:6) Which do we choose, knowledge from the Word of God, or yielding to the societal pressures of political correctness? Making wrong choices can be devastating to both society and individuals. What are we going to do about it? Seek the truth, find it, live it. “And you shall seek me, and find me, when you shall search for me with all of your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:13) "All of your heart?" Yes, "all of your heart." This means that God is not "incidental" in our lives. Study the Word of God. Why not start with the Gospel of John 1:1-14, then go to Chapter 3:1-21. From there, go to Acts, Chapters 1 and 2. Then study Chapters 6 and 8 of the Epistle of Romans. Give your life to Jesus. The best is yet to come!

I am happy to declare that The Sweetwater High School Red Devils have been practicing for their 2015 Varsity Football Season. The school started in 1920. This means 95 football seasons. Not bad. I helped coach their Freshman and JV football teams for two years. I am happy to announce that I have been their unofficial chaplain for 17 years. The Lord has been good to all of us. Raping: Spiritually Beneficial?

I would just like to tell the world that sexual assault is neither "spiritually beneficial" or "virtuous." Why am I declaring this? The following excerpt taken from a recent article written by Joshua Keating, a staff writer at Slate Magazine who specializes on writing about international affairs. Keating quotes an article written by another writer, as part of his article. Here is part of what he wrote.

"Based on interviews with 21 survivors, the article details how rape has become deeply enmeshed in the organization and the radical theology of the Islamic State” 'since the group overran Yazidi territory in 2014. ISIS has created “a network of warehouses where the victims are held, viewing rooms where they are inspected and marketed, and a dedicated fleet of buses used to transport them,” and issued a 34-page how-to manual with guidelines for rape. Its leaders have celebrated sexual assault as “spiritually beneficial, even virtuous.” A 12-year-old escapee, now living with her family in an Iraqi refugee camp, describes how an ISIS fighter would pray before and after raping her and explain that the Quran gave him the right to do so."

So, "an Isis fighter would pray before and after raping her and explain that the Koran gave him the right to do so." If the Koran gives him the right to rape a 12 year old girl, then, obviously the Koran is not the Word of God. The actual Word of God forbids sex outside of marriage. (marriage being between a man and a woman) Any man who rapes a woman is a criminal who needs to repent. A man who rapes a child is not only a criminal, but also a sick person, who also needs to repent. If he repents, he needs to replace the lies he has believed with the Word of God, and develop his faith in Jesus Christ. I have discussed this matter with high school students, most of who have told me "its their culture." No way. Having sex with a child against her will is not "an aspect of culture." It is criminal and barbaric conduct. Apparently, in the opinion of some, if you politicize perversion and you back it up with some kind of religion, you are justified, and you actually think you deserve sex from some captured, innocent girl because you are carrying a sub-machine gun. How pathetic can you get? What do these actions say about the offender's religion? RD

Have faith that somehow, it will come back to you. When have you heard that kindness caused someone to go broke? Have faith in God. He is the creator of kindness. Freedom's Course

I have talked about this before, but I continue with the theme because I feel so strongly about it. I believe that freedom (or liberty) is the greatest gift a government/nation/society or culture can give to it's people. I believe government has the capacity to diminish creativity, productivity and prosperity. Government has the capacity of getting so immense that it has too many employees with not much to do. They then start their jobs as hard-core bureaucrats. Their leaders may then try to find them "something to do." That "something to do" may involve the need for the citizen to go to an interview, or a meeting, get a permit, pay some fees, wait for an environmental impact report, get some signatures, talk to another "representative" of the department, and the list goes on. All of this can impact productivity. Our society is not set up this way. Our society is set up to enable freedom to take it's course.

Greed And Need

Maybe certain definitions of words do not change as rapidly as we think they do. Needs do not really change. Perhaps the ways of satisfying them, do change. When Governments Fear The People

I do not want the government under which I live, to be tyrannical. I want to be free. I want to be free to live as I choose. I know government is necessary. I know we have laws. I choose to obey them. They are there for a purpose. I know government has corruption. I just do not want the corruption to affect me directly, in a negative way. Maybe that sounds too idealistic. Nevertheless, I want to be free. And I think Thomas Jefferson agreed with me. Or, maybe I should say I agree with him. Incidentally, I do not own firearms. However, I am very pro-Second Amendment. I Refuse To Condemn Them

They can call me intolerant. They can call me a hater. They can call me a bigot. They can call me a hypocrite. They can call me all of the gross names they want to. Unkind names do not convince me that I have made a mistake by believing the Word of God. I refuse to respond with unkind names. I refuse to respond with insults. I refuse to condemn them. It is not my place. It is not my responsibility. Nevertheless, the Bible, which I believe to be the inspired Word of God declares that homosexuality and lesbianism are sins. Therefore, I will not agree that it is a legitimate lifestyle. I believe in freedom. I believe that a person should be able to live his or her life any way he or she chooses. I choose not to hate anyone. I refuse to hate anyone. I have two questions. Just because I do not agree with someone's lifestyle, does that mean I hate them? Am I able to love someone if I do not agree with the lifestyle of that person? I will continue to pray for others. I will continue to serve God. I will continue to refuse to hate anyone. I refuse to condemn. I am just unable to agree with everything people do. Do you agree with everything people do?

Question Of The Week pt. 4


According to the Bible, marriage is ordained by God to be between a man and a woman (Genesis 2:21-24; Matthew 19:4-6). Gay marriage/same-sex marriage is a perversion of the institution of marriage and an offense to the God who created marriage. As Christians, we are not to condone or ignore sin. Rather, we are to share the love of God and the forgiveness of sins that is available to all, including homosexuals, through Jesus Christ. We are to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and contend for truth with “gentleness and respect” (1 Peter 3:15). As Christians, when we make a stand for truth and the result is personal attacks, insults, and persecution, we should remember the words of Jesus: “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you” (John 15:18-19).

Question Of The Week pt. 3


The answer, according to the Bible, is that everyone inherently knows that homosexuality is immoral and unnatural, and the only way to suppress this inherent knowledge is by normalizing homosexuality and attacking any and all opposition to it. The best way to normalize homosexuality is by placing gay marriage/same-sex marriage on an equal plane with traditional opposite-gender marriage. Romans 1:18-32 illustrates this. The truth is known because God has made it plain. The truth is rejected and replaced with a lie. The lie is then promoted and the truth suppressed and attacked. The vehemence and anger expressed by many in the gay rights movement to any who oppose them is, in fact, an indication that they know their position is indefensible. Trying to overcome a weak position by raising your voice is the oldest trick in the debating book. There is perhaps no more accurate description of the modern gay rights agenda than Romans 1:31, “they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless.”

To give sanction to gay marriage/same-sex marriage would be to give approval to the homosexual lifestyle, which the Bible clearly and consistently condemns as sinful. Christians should stand firmly against the idea of gay marriage/same-sex marriage. Further, there are strong and logical arguments against gay marriage/same-sex marriage from contexts completely separated from the Bible. One does not have to be an evangelical Christian to recognize that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Question Of The Week pt. 2

The Bible alone, however, does not have to be used to demonstrate this understanding of marriage. The biblical viewpoint of marriage has been the universal understanding of marriage in every human civilization in world history. History argues against gay marriage. Modern secular psychology recognizes that men and women are psychologically and emotionally designed to complement one another. In regard to the family, psychologists contend that a union between a man and woman in which both spouses serve as good gender role models is the best environment in which to raise well-adjusted children. Psychology argues against gay marriage. In nature/physicality, clearly, men and women were designed to “fit” together sexually. With the “natural” purpose of sexual intercourse being procreation, clearly only a sexual relationship between a man and a woman can fulfill this purpose. Nature argues against gay marriage.

So, if the Bible, history, psychology, and nature all argue for marriage being between a man and a woman—why is there such a controversy today? Why are those who are opposed to gay marriage/same-sex marriage labeled as hateful, intolerant bigots, no matter how respectfully the opposition is presented? Why is the gay rights movement so aggressively pushing for gay marriage/same-sex marriage when most people, religious and non-religious, are supportive of—or at least far less opposed to—gay couples having all the same legal rights as married couples with some form of civil union?

The following question, with its answer was taken from a Christian website by the name of Got Questions.Org. Since the answer is long, it will take four blogs to show the answer.

Question: "What does the Bible say about gay marriage/same sex marriage?"

Answer: While the Bible does address homosexuality, it does not explicitly mention gay marriage/same-sex marriage. It is clear, however, that the Bible condemns homosexuality as an immoral and unnatural sin. Leviticus 18:22 identifies homosexual sex as an abomination, a detestable sin. Romans 1:26-27 declares homosexual desires and actions to be shameful, unnatural, lustful, and indecent. First Corinthians 6:9 states that homosexuals are unrighteous and will not inherit the kingdom of God. Since both homosexual desires and actions are condemned in the Bible, it is clear that homosexuals “marrying” is not God’s will, and would be, in fact, sinful.

Whenever the Bible mentions marriage, it is between a male and a female. The first mention of marriage, Genesis 2:24, describes it as a man leaving his parents and being united to his wife. In passages that contain instructions regarding marriage, such as 1 Corinthians 7:2-16 and Ephesians 5:23-33, the Bible clearly identifies marriage as being between a man and a woman. Biblically speaking, marriage is the lifetime union of a man and a woman, primarily for the purpose of building a family and providing a stable environment for that family.

I'm A Summer time Guy

Yesterday was the first day of Summer. Bring it on! I'm a Summer time guy. Summertime takes me back to those innocent and fun days. Playing baseball at Kimball Park, swimming at the National City Plunge. Selling newspapers in Downtown National City (when NC had a downtown). When I got a little older, 3 straight years of football practice during the hot months of August, September and October. Yes.......and going to the beach. Imperial Beach, Coronado, La Jolla, Mission Beach.....it was all good. My early twenties? The Army. Basic training at Ft. Ord in the Summer time. I didn't hate it. I didn't love it. It was a little bit of fun. Camp Roberts? Look out. Now, that is a hot place. No worries. I was a Summer time guy. And sometimes I just enjoy being outside when it is super hot. We go to Palm Desert every Summer or Fall. Usually 100 plus degrees. I love it. Why? Because I'm a Summer time guy. Summer just has a certain charm to it. Why? Because I'm a Summer time guy.

Many years ago I used to quote the following statement regarding faith. I used to discuss it at work with other teachers. It made so much sense to me. But not everyone agreed with it. Not everyone liked it. Some even lambasted it. How odd. Yet not really surprising. Just because a man is educated, does not necessarily mean he will have faith. His education might even get in the way. Nevertheless, the quote below is a point of view. And yes, a good one. A powerful one, but not in the opinion of everyone. Part of what Apostle Paul wrote in II Thessalonians 3:2 says: "Not all men have faith." How true.....but still sad. Nevertheless, we move on.

Teach Faith

Patriotism Or No Patriotism

I wrote the following letter as a response to an article written by GOP-USA last month. The article discussed patriotism and its lack of popularity. "Patriotism or no patriotism, flag salute or no flag salute, National Anthem or no National Anthem. If this country is NOT a great place to live, if it is NOT a great place for opportunities, if it is NOT a great place to practice your freedoms and pursue your dreams…..then why do many people risk their lives to get here? Why do they give their life savings to a stranger, who has promised to bring them here, who may mistreat and/or physically harm them? Why do unescorted children come here? Why have small-statured men and women been found under hoods of cars, and hanging on to a car by way of a chassis? Why do they swim the Rio Grande and Pacific Ocean or take unsafe boats? Why are they willing to hide inside of suitcases and attempt to be cargo on board ships and planes? I’ll tell you why in 5 words: It is a great country! I did not say it is a perfect place. There are no perfect places. And there won’t be any. Not on this planet at least. I have no problem loving this country. I might hate or dislike this country if I had a great deal of bitterness, anger, hatred and jealousy. But those are issues I must deal with myself, and no country in this world can help me with them."

Freedom, Choices, Control And Reason

Freedom represents the opportunity to do whatever one wants to do. However, "doing things" causes consequences. Those consequences are not always under our control. In fact, some of those consequences may truly disrupt a person's life, even to the point of seriously damaging one's life. On the other hand, some of our actions may produce very beneficial consequences both to ourselves and to others. We just need the opportunity to make those choices. Government must not take away those opportunities. It is not reasonable to do so. It is not reasonable for government to criminalize actions that are not really crimes. We must continue to be vigilant.

Gay means happy. But it seems that this particular meaning is lost forever. The word is basically a misnomer. I do not use the word “gay.” To me, it is a ruined word. They are not “gay,” they are homosexuals. I am fully aware that language goes through transition, but I refuse to use a word that to me, represents a misapplication. I am through with that word. Freedom Is Never Complete

How can it be satisfactory when it is always evolving? It is possible that it can evolve into absurdity and disaster. It is possible that it can involve into dangerous situations. It is possible that it can evolve into anarchy. We are hungry for it. We desire it. But it can sure interfere with peace. It can sure interfere with moral parameters. It can sure interfere with life and limb. Freedom is not possible when you have too many ignorant and/or immoral people living in a society. Freedom is not complete. It is unfinished. It still needs a "great deal of work."

My Advice To Jason King

This is tragic. I too, was a drunk driver. Many accidents. Many arrests. I thank God, I never killed anyone. (including myself) Rest in peace, Annie and Madison. You are no longer alive because a drunk driver, driving on the wrong side of the freeway, hit you head on. He did not die. He has some serious injuries, however. Jason, I wish you a speedy recovery. Some may say to you: "Hey man, don't drink and drive!" I have better advice. Don't ever drink again. It was not your truck that caused the accident. It was you....influenced by the liquor. Do you think liquor causes problems only when you are driving? Think again. Ask God to help you.

Forgive, It Is Best

Forgive. It is best. Do not punish yourself for a past injustice. What you are doing is actually "repunishing" and repeating the offense against yourself. Do not be held hostage by the past. Take the burden off. You are not "getting even" by refusing to forgive. You might think you are, but you are not. By not forgiving, you have allowed something to control you. You have lost a certain amount of freedom. Forget about it. Vengeance does not belong to you......or me. Forgive, it is best.

Anne And Madison

I don't usually write about these things in any of my blogs, but what a terrible loss. It happened early Saturday morning on May 16th, 2015. Ironically, it was Armed Forces Day. Jason King, a young Marine, was drunk. He was driving the wrong way on SR-163 in San Diego. He crashed his Ford F-350 truck into a Toyota Prius, killing two medical students who had just finished their second year of medical school at UCSD. Anne Baldock was 24 years of age, and Madison Cornwell was 23. Both young women were highly respected by all who knew them. They were well-liked. Too bad this happened. I relate to this because I too, was a drunk driver. Many accidents. Many arrests. I am so grateful to God that I never killed anyone (including myself) I did not learn my lesson until the age of 32. I was a hard-core alcoholic, definitely nothing to be proud of. However, I thank God that I have not had a drink in 40 years. May God comfort the friends and family of Anne and Madison.

I think Mark Twain was accurate regarding many of his statements about society and government. However, such accuracy was, many times, idealistic. Yes, maybe some of his criticisms were true, but too often he offered no solutions. He enjoyed observing and reporting. I think he was a genius. Certainly a great writer. Sacrifices are necessary. People who think they can be successful without making sacrifices are deceiving themselves. Perhaps they have put too much emphasis on their dreams and abilities, without taking into account the importance of having patience and working hard. Whenever you see a famous, wealthy and charismatic person, please remember: That person had to pay some dues. That person had to work hard for what he or she has. Perhaps there are exceptions, but they are rare. The abilities to work hard, be quiet when necessary, be consistent, listen to helpful advice, and a determination to succeed are essential. They are much more essential than just an ego that dreams and pretends. Do you not have freedom? Use it then. You say you want power? You have it already. You have the power of freedom. Go for it! Leave The Merchant Alone

I am a firm supporter of human rights, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the press and assembly, and all freedoms guaranteed to us by the United States Constitution. Leave people alone. Let the merchant run his or her business the way he/she chooses to do so. If you do not agree with them, leave them alone. Start your own business. Why start some kind of “crusade” for rights. I truly believe that in the public square and in our personal lives: When people do not mind their own business, tragic things happen. I am convinced that too often, people are looking for “issues,” or are in the business of turning non-issues into issues. Part of the problem is that too many lawyers are looking for huge paydays. However, I do not propose that we do with the lawyers what Shakespeare suggested to do in “Henry the VI.”

My Response To Holy War

“Jihad” is an unusual word for me. Why? Because Christians are also commanded to fight. We are told: “fight the good fight.” “Endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.” There are more references to “the war.” But the war of the Christian is truly a holy war because it does not involve the killing of people. At least according to the scriptures. Before I see a bunch of responses in reference to the Crusades, historically, the “Christian Crusaders” went to war ignorantly, and not doing what the Word of God says. It was a political group of soldiers who were following the orders of an already corrupted Church hierarchy. Is a Christian supposed to kill people in war? Yes, if that particular Christian is fighting under the flag of a sovereign nation, but not if he is “fighting for Jesus.” “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Eph. 6:12) “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal.” (2 Cor. 10:4) There is much more. Read the book of Acts. It is the true history of the early Church.

Ex Gays? Yes....Of Course!

Very briefly, I would like to discuss a subject that I think is close to being taboo. It deals with men and women who have had same-sex attraction, but then became heterosexual. Approximately 10 Christian ministries exist for the purpose of providing a system by which men and/or women may rid themselves of same-sex attraction through Christian therapy which mainly consists of Bible study, prayer and counseling therapy. There are two main reasons why I believe that the transition is possible. Firstly, the Bible teaches that same gender sexual activity is a sin. Secondly, I believe that with God all things are possible. I definitely believe in the power of prayer. "Ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and you shall find." (Matt. 7:7) Those are the Words of Jesus, and there is much more. He has all the power. Have faith in God. Jesus is God. This is a paramount truth, considering that He declared in the Gospel of John 15:5, "For without me, you can do nothing." Was Jesus being arrogant? No. He was speaking as the God that He is. I will not allow the system, culture, trends, and lies that this world disseminates cause me to doubt the truths of the living God. Another thing, I firmly believe in freedom. I believe that a person can worship God any way he or she chooses to, and yes, of course I realize that this can sometimes be at odds with the laws of the land. We see it happening as I speak. Nevertheless, I am not interested in defying or challenging the laws. I am aware that standing up for my faith can at times be costly. I am also aware that Jesus told His believers: "You are the salt of the earth and you are the light of the world." (Matt. 5:13,14) I could go on and on, but I will finish with this: If a man is fed up with being a homosexual....he can stop being one....with God's help. He can repent. He can pray with faith. He can pray in Jesus' name. "If you shall ask anything in my name, I will do it." (John 14:14) "Call unto me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things that you do not know about." (Jer. 33:3) Please remember that there is only one God and Lord. Jesus has all the power. There is much more.

The Awana Games

Awana is a Christian youth organization. It meets once a week at a selected church, where parents bring their children to be taught the Word of God and engage in different sports and recreational activities. They celebrate the "Awana Games" once a year. I had the privilege of attending the Awana Games today. I saw hundreds of children between the ages of five and ten participate in this joyful, athletic and competitive sports activity which was held at Shadow Mountain Church in El Cajon, California. It was so tremendous! I will never forget this fun-filled function on this St. Patricks day weekend. The one thing that is foremost in my mind is the spirit of the event. Yes, the spirit, the atmosphere. I greeted many friendly people. I witnessed no arguments, or angry, bitter, drunk, loaded or belligerent people. I saw no beer stands. I smelled no marijuana. I have no doubt that many present have participated in the aforementioned. However, their attendance to this event indicates that they have decided to make choices that are better and more fulfilling for themselves and their families. I will not hesitate to declare why this event was so special. The reason it was, and will continue to be in the future is because this function honored Jesus Christ. This creates a "no lose" proposition. With Jesus you can only win. He is the greatest gift to the human race. With no pun intended.......He is also the greatest gift to the children's competitive races I witnessed today. Praise the name of Jesus!

What Is Your Value?

What if a car engine was only able to allow the car that it is in to travel one-fourth of a mile per gallon of gasoline? Would you like to own that car? If you would like to own it, I doubt that you would drive it very often. Machines require maintenance, power, and trained people to be able to operate them. Machines serve a purpose. They are designed for productivity and to make life more comfortable. From the point of view of economics, when a machine is more costly to maintain and operate than what it produces or provides, then the owner of that machine ceases to use it. This is common sense. What about people? Well, they have intrinsic value. Intrinsic value? Does this mean that individuals have no need to be productive human beings? I know that people are not machines. However, if people are not trained/taught to be productive, we are in serious trouble. Please check this quote by Martin H. Fischer, a German-born American physician and author.......... Forgiveness Changes The Present

Obviously, not everyone sees it this way, but forgiveness is essential. It is necessary. It is Godly, God inspired and the will of God. Sometimes it is not easy. However, in some ways it is common sense because it can relieve a person of a serious burden. On the other hand, some people refuse to forgive because that is their way of acquiring revenge, or of punishing the offender. Look at it this way: I know people can (and do) hurt us. But do we need to continue hurting ourselves over the matter? Today, on the back of a magazine, I found a hand-written quote that discusses forgiveness. I do not know the author, and I am unable to give the person any credit for writing it. Here it is:............"Forgiveness changes the present, not the past. Forgiveness is a personal choice. Hey......Mr. Anthropologist......

He has never called himself an anthropologist. He may even be unfamiliar with the academic discipline of Anthropology. What is anthropology, anyway? According to Webster's definition, it is "the scientific study of the origin and the physical, social and cultural development and behavior of humans." I have talked to tourists, travelers, vacationers, visitors and the like about their trips to Mexico, Central America and South America. I get the impression sometimes, that they do not like to see other travelers where they are visiting. I get the impression that they have preconceived notions about how conditions "should be." How the indigenous people "should be." They act disappointed because an "Indian" has a cell phone or a computer and knows how to use it. What did he expect? "Mr. Anthropologist" finds solace in studying indigenous peoples of Latin America. But sometimes he doesn't realize that those people are sometimes exposed to technology and are able to view different ways of living, and at times, these ways have proven to be very attractive to them. But sometimes, "Mr. Anthropologist," in his condescension, does not see it that way. He prefers to see a living textbook in front of him, that conforms to some sort of mystique he has developed in his mind and expectations.

Patriotism, Flag Salutes And National Anthems

The following entry is a letter I wrote to GOP-USA, in response to an article they published regarding a lack of patriotism in our country.......... "Patriotism or no patriotism, flag salute or no flag salute, National Anthem or no National Anthem. If this country is NOT a great place to live, if it is NOT a great place for opportunities, if it is NOT a great place to practice your freedoms and pursue your dreams…..then why do many people risk their lives to get here? Why do they give their life savings to a stranger, who has promised to bring them here, who may mistreat and/or physically harm them? Why do unescorted children come here? Why have small-statured men and women been found under hoods of cars, and hanging on to a car by way of a chassis? Why do they swim the Rio Grande and Pacific Ocean or take unsafe boats? Why are they willing to hide inside of suitcases and attempt to be cargo on board ships and planes? I’ll tell you why in 5 words: It is a great country! I did not say it is a perfect place. There are no perfect places. And there won’t be any. Not on this planet at least. I have no problem loving this country. I might hate or dislike this country if I had a great deal of bitterness, anger, hatred and jealousy. But those are issues I must deal with myself, and no country in this world can help me with them."

Craig Hicks: "Live And Let Live"?

Several days ago, Craig Hicks murdered three people, he left a man and two women dead. All 3 were Muslims. This happened in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Craig Hicks is an atheist who claims to hate all religions. He has a problem with religious people. Everybody has problems. The big question is: How do we deal with them? Murder is an inappropriate way/substitute/excuse for dealing with one’s problems. I believe in the Second Amendment. However, people who are angry, fed up, annoyed, depressed, confused and desperate need to seek other means to resolve their unrest. I am a firm believer that every problem has a solution. Hicks is a problem to society. There is a place reserved for this individual. It is called prison or penitentiary. He needs to be held there for the rest of his life. The irony is that sometimes people like him find the Lord in there. Their lives are changed. They repent and obey God. They become students of the Bible. They go from guns to God to glory. The truth is.........I have seen it many times.

Super Bowl 2015

I have no beef with Bill or Pete. They are both great coaches. They would not have been where they were on February 1, 2015 if they were/are not great coaches. I had a great time. I felt as if I had been in Glendale, Arizona on that day. It was a great game. I was rooting for the Seahawks, nevertheless, I was not fanatical about it. And yes, I think the best team won. My congratulations to the New England Patriots. I have no doubt that they are literally the best football team in the world. They proved it last Sunday. All of the second-guessing, critical analysis, evaluations and commentary have their place. However, it does nothing to change the outcome of the last NFL game of the 2014/15 season. The Patriots won......and that is that. My advice to all of the NFL teams that did not win the Super Bowl: Play better ball next season.

Improve Yourself

Do you agree that we are always changing? Are we familiar with improvement? Of course we are. We are changing without even realizing it sometimes. If we are changing anyway, why not change for the better? Why not improve, improve and improve? Some might say: "Oh that is just the way I am, why change"? Why change? To improve your life and be someone that can also help improve the quality of life for others. So, what does that do? It makes a better, safer and more interesting life and world. It creates a purposeful life. Improve yourself? Yes. Don't worry about being better or reaching higher levels than others. Take yourself to higher levels. In other words.........be better than yourself. How? By improving yourself.

Massacres, Freedom, Tyranny, And The Gospel

I shall be brief about subjects that need a great deal of explanation. Massacres, freedom, tyranny and the Gospel. Jesus said: "I am the the way the truth and the life, and no man comes unto the Father but by me." Jesus offers eternal life and a purposeful life here on earth. Some people believe it. Some people do not. But to prohibit people from saying that, and much more, is to prevent freedom of expression, the press and speech. Genocide/massacre is another matter. It is evil. It is murder. "Believe my way or die." No. Absolutely not. Nevertheless, freedom is delicate. It cannot be practiced everywhere because of ignorance, tyranny and intolerance. There are people in this world who do not even know what freedom is. Christian missionaries often operate where there is not much freedom. They preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. By doing so, they "bring freedom" with them. "And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:32) Take it or leave it. But if one has the power to prohibit it, (whether legal or not) and that person does, then that person is a tyrant and/or a criminal. Nevertheless, tyranny has never completely stopped the spread of the Gospel.

Freedom Of Speech Continues Anyway

Human and civil rights are fought for. They must be defended. They must never be taken for granted. And it must not be assumed that everyone throughout the world understands or respects them. It is a shame to hear that today, two terrorists/assailants/murderers forced their way into the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a French magazine that specializes in satire, and murdered 12 people. What an atrocity. This is not the defense of religion, it is insanity. Those murdered were writers, editors and cartoonists. It is believed that this is an act of vengeance because Charlie Hebdo had published a caricature of the Prophet Mohammed in 2011. I believe this: If you do not like what is printed or published in a magazine or newspaper, contact them and let them know what you think of what they have published. This is what is usually done among civilized and reasonable people. One must not murder because he disagrees. Freedom can be costly, particularly freedom of the press. It must continue anyway. It must. And murderers must be brought to justice. This is how civilized society operates.

Not Under The Purview Of Law

Is it against the law to disagree with someone's lifestyle? Is it against the law to have a point of view that is traditional? Is it against the law to practice freedom? Is it against the law to be rude or disrespectful? Am I correct in assuming that the law does not need to be involved in everything that we do? I am free. However, I have no guarantee that all people will agree with me, or be kind to me. If I greet someone in the street, are they under any obligation, by law, to return my greeting? Of course not. Kindness, courtesy and respect do not fall under the authority of the law. They may be connected to law. They may even inspire certain laws. However, they are not under the purview of law. They are under the purview of upbringing, morality and civilization. They are not under the purview of law.

What We "Feel" ?

What we "feel" is definitely not always who we are. We can "feel" many things, but we best not act on all of them because we may find ourselves in serious trouble, maybe even in prison.(in more ways than one) Satan's purpose is to "steal, kill and destroy." This is what he does. The evidence is all around us. However, mentioning these things may not always be politically correct. God did not call us to be politically correct. He called us to love Him and to love others. So if a man "feels" like a horse, dog or cat, (or any other animal) this does not make him that. If a man "feels" like a woman, this does not make him a woman. Even if he decides to become one. A man can never be a woman if he was born a man. Am I going to be upset if someone does not agree with me? No, not upset, just disappointed. I also realize that not everyone agrees with the Bible. The Bible is the Word of God. It must be spiritually discerned. Someone asked: "Hey, I thought I had free will, I do, don't I?" Yes, we all make choices. Do our choices have consequences or do they not? There is much more.
