An Intolerant Professor

A professor of religious studies at the University of Pennsylvania, named Anthea Butler recently insulted Dr. Ben Carson, and called him a "coon" because she disagreed with a statement he made about the Confederate flag.  She has also stated that "Christianity is responsible for slavery."  "Coon" is an unkind word to call a Black person.  If Butler disagrees with Carson, then explain why.  Is she not an educated person?  Also, Christianity is not responsible for slavery.  It is responsible for ending it.  Butler needs to be reprimanded and/or fired.  It appears that Butler believes in freedom of speech only if she agrees with what is said.  If you do not agree, then you insult.  Does that seem proper?  Does that seem scholarly or courteous?  Incidentally, although he did not belong to a specific denomination, Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, was a Christian.  He had no formal schooling as a child.  He learned how to read at home using a Bible as a textbook.  His important speeches contain quotes or references to the Bible.  Another great American is no doubt considered the greatest civil rights leader in the history of the United States.  He was a minister of the Gospel and Pastor of a Baptist Church.  He also believed in freedom and expressed it.   For this he was also called a "coon."  Not only that, he was assassinated.  He was Dr. Martin Luther King.   Intolerance sometimes breeds destruction, and the practice of freedom is sometimes the object of that destruction.
