An Intolerant Professor

A professor of religious studies at the University of Pennsylvania, named Anthea Butler recently insulted Dr. Ben Carson, and called him a "coon" because she disagreed with a statement he made about the Confederate flag.  She has also stated that "Christianity is responsible for slavery."  "Coon" is an unkind word to call a Black person.  If Butler disagrees with Carson, then explain why.  Is she not an educated person?  Also, Christianity is not responsible for slavery.  It is responsible for ending it.  Butler needs to be reprimanded and/or fired.  It appears that Butler believes in freedom of speech only if she agrees with what is said.  If you do not agree, then you insult.  Does that seem proper?  Does that seem scholarly or courteous?  Incidentally, although he did not belong to a specific denomination, Abraham Lincoln, our 16th President, was a Christian.  He had no formal schooling as a child.  He learned how to read at home using a Bible as a textbook.  His important speeches contain quotes or references to the Bible.  Another great American is no doubt considered the greatest civil rights leader in the history of the United States.  He was a minister of the Gospel and Pastor of a Baptist Church.  He also believed in freedom and expressed it.   For this he was also called a "coon."  Not only that, he was assassinated.  He was Dr. Martin Luther King.   Intolerance sometimes breeds destruction, and the practice of freedom is sometimes the object of that destruction.

Just Love Them From A Distance

If they are blatantly rude, insanely jealous of you, and/or just do not like you; maybe you should seriously consider just staying away from them.  You probably cannot change them. Pray for them. Maybe they are suffering. You can still love them......just love them from a distance.

Hamas Called A Murderer "Heroic"

Several days ago, a Palestinian man stabbed two Israelis to death in old Jerusalem.  This attack also seriously wounded a woman and a toddler.  Hamas, the Islamic militant  group that rules Gaza, praised the attack.  It called the attack "heroic."  I just have one question:  What makes stabbing a man and a woman to death, and seriously wounding a toddler and a woman, a "heroic" act?

I Remember Yogi Berra

I do not recall where I read it,  heard it, or saw it.  But I remember the story.  It was a warm Summer day.  Yogi Berra was wearing a stylish and comfortable Summer suit. Someone complimented him.  I don't know if it was a man or a woman.  The person said to Yogi:  "Hey Yogi, you really look cool in that suit."  Berra responded:  "Thanks a lot, you don't look so hot yourself!"

Freedom Costs Preparation

Freedom costs preparation. Preparation? Yes, preparation. If one wants to enjoy freedom, he or she must prepare for it , because freedom and ignorance do not blend.

"Do Unto Others" And Abortion

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you,"  in my view, is one of the greatest quotes ever made.  It was made in Matt. 7:12.  It is known as the "golden rule."  It is hard to beat as a reasonable guideline for how to live.  Yes.  Regarding the golden rule and abortion, I have one question for a pro-abortionist.  If you were a developing human being in the womb of your mother, (as you once were) would you like your life ended? You might answer by saying, "considering, I did not have a will, I was not really a person."  Really?  If you were not a person then, how could you be a person now?  You were given a chance at life.  Why would you want to deny someone else a chance to have the same?  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Same Gender Marriage ?

I wrote the following letter several days ago as a result of a photo/sign that I saw on top of a  rainbow painted house.  Two gay men were holding up a sign that said " Marriage equality and justice for all."  I am aware of what the sign means.  I just do not agree with it.  Same gender marriage is not good for the country.  Also, someone had sent in a picture of a cow with a caption that said "I will give you six cows for your daughter so that I may marry her."  The purpose of that was to equate old fashioned thinking with marriage being between a man and a woman.  Is homosexuality/lesbianism something new?  No.  Is it wrong?  Yes.  Who said so?  God said so.

"Equality and justice for all? the poster needs to properly define its terms. Men and women are not equal. If they were equal they would be physically built the same. Men would have breasts that would have the potential to give milk. Women would have testicles. Men could get pregnant. And the list goes on. Marriage is for men and women, and no amount of political activism will change the truth that has existed since time has begun. All of the cultural and flexible connections to marriage such as dowries, engagement, courtship, and even elopement do not change the universal truth that marriage is between a man and a woman. I refuse to hate. I refuse to call someone unkind names. I also refuse to accept same-gender marriage as valid. God created/invented/started marriage in the Garden of Eden between a man and a woman. If you are a proponent of same-gender marriage, you are disagreeing with God and telling Him you have a "better" way. Please read Paul's Epistle to the Romans Chap. 1, verses 24 to 32."
