The Lord of Glory

Admiration, praise, honor, fame, and distinction.  Individuals seek it because each person is distinct, and often seeks to be distinguished.  It is important, it is very important.  People start seeking it at a very early age.   The term "glory," in the Christian tradition, is used to denote the manifestation of God's presence.  Prior to his arrest, Jesus said in the account of the Gospel of John 17: 4,5........"I have glorified you on earth.  I have finished the work which You have given me to do.  And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was."  Not long after He said this, He was crucified on a cross, like a common criminal.  What crime did He commit?  Jesus was accused of treason against the Roman government for declaring that He was a king, even though He stated that He was not a king of this world.  The crime of treason was a capital offense punishable by crucifixion.  He had committed no crime.  He was crucified anyway.  "The Lord of glory" was crucified. (see I Cor. 2: 8)  How many "Lords of glory" are there, anyway?  One? Two? Many?  There is just one.  Let us not get confused.  God is not the author of confusion.  Look:  "I am the Lord, that is my name; And my glory I will not give to another, Nor my praise to carved images."  (Isa. 42: 8)  So.....Who has been "named" Lord?  Name is a noun.  Name is a verb.  Jesus is the Lord of glory who came to earth in the form of a man.  This man came as a servant.  He is the Lord.  "One Lord, one faith, one baptism."  (Eph. 4: 5)  Yes, it is ironic that the Lord of glory came as a servant.  He did it to show us the importance of being humble.  There is much to say about this.  I must save it for another time.  "He who humbles himself shall be exalted, and he who exalts himself shall be humbled." ( Luke 14: 11)   Is there a greater example of humility for us than Jesus?   No.  Is there another Lord of glory?  No.  Is there a greater name than Jesus?  No.  Please check Philippians chapter two.
